Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a serious problem in the United States. According to Erin’s Law, 1 in 4 girls will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18 and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18. As a professional who works with children and families, it is absolutely vital to become knowledgeable about child sexual abuse, how it occurs, prevention techniques, and how to help families and children who have undergone child sexual violence. Attendees will become knowledgeable on signs of child sexual abuse, the grooming process, and learn how prevalent child sexual abuse in the city of Chicago. This training will detail the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse at all youth-age levels.

About the Presenter
Jessica Salgado, MSW, is a bilingual Youth Educator & Counselor at Resilience, working out of the Austin office. Jess received her Master of Arts in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago in the summer of 2017. Jess was the first U of C intern to join Resilience’s Education and Training team. Jess strongly believes that a way to combat child sexual abuse is to take a holistic approach by teaching children, parents, and communities sexual violence prevention and intervention. Jess’s role as the Youth Educator and Counselor consists of continuing to educate all age groups on sexual violence, initiating community outreach, creating public events in order to combat sexual assault, and providing counseling services to survivors of sexual violence. Jess is able to serve individuals and communities in both Spanish and English.
