Learning Objectives Include
1. This training will lay a brief foundation of how sexual trauma impacts the body/mind, and outline common emotional, psychological, and physiological symptoms.
2. Participants will learn about yoga as an evidence-based therapeutic technique for effectively alleviating trauma symptoms through movement, breath work, and meditation.
3. Presenter will teach simple and effective movements, breathing techniques, and meditations that participants can utilize in their day to day lives and/or when working with clients.
4. Participants will learn and practice how the body can be a resource for restoring relative safety, re-establishing boundaries, and embodying agency following sexual trauma.
5. Presenter will introduce principles of trauma-informed dance/movement therapy including rhythm, ritual, kinesthetic empathy, movement expression, and meaning making.
6. Participants will be invited to listen in to their own bodies and practice creative self-expression through a guided movement experiential.
About the Presenters
Lauren Milburn, LPC, R-DMT (she/her) is a Trauma Therapist serving sexual trauma survivors at Resilience. She completed her Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling MA at Columbia College Chicago. Lauren believes that everyone has a right to feel at home in their bodies.
Candice Tindell, MNM, Certified Yoga Teacher (she/her) has been a part of Resilience's Education and Training Team for over three years and is passionate about the power of education in preventing sexual violence. She received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification from Room to Breathe in May of 2020 with a specialization in psych-sensitive, trauma-informed yoga and strives to make her classes a healing and inclusive space for all bodies.
Both trainers recommend wearing clothing you feel comfortable moving in. Training will involve gentle movement as part of the learning process. No experience in either yoga or dance/movement needed to attend. Participants are not required to move to attend this training and are welcome to observe.
