This workshop will give you the skills to connect with your students who may be experiencing sexual abuse or domestic violence. Domestic violence and sexual abuse are both characterized by intentional harm done by one person to exert power and control over another person in the context of a dating, family or household relationship. This workshop will also prepare attendees to recognize some warning signs of trauma as they tend to present themselves in a classroom setting. Finally, the workshop will provide attendees with basic skills on how to respond immediately to a disclosure of violence or abuse and where to go for further support. We don’t expect you to leave experts, but we do hope to dispel some myths and fears about these topics in order to better equip you to support your students this school year!
Resilience is a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through crisis counseling, individual and group therapy, medical and legal counseling and prevention education. Find out more at www.ourresilience.org.
